Akshara Foundation has a Capacity Building Programme, which focuses on teacher training in creative approaches of thinking, learning and enriching them in soft skills and pedagogy. The quality of the education is as good as the quality of the teachers and their training forms an integral part of a good learning system. It believes that empowering school teachers will make them change agents in the system. The force multiplier, when teachers have the right levels of training, is enormous.

The training focuses on soft skills, computer skills and spoken English. The training is activity - based and participative and includes role plays, group discussions, presentations, games, worksheets and questionnaires.

The programme is done in collaboration with 'Academy Creative Teaching' Bangalore run by eminent educationalist and an international trainer Dr. Gururaj Karajagi.

Finishing School for Teachers
Akshara Foundation also has another programme called "Finishing School for Teachers", where B.Ed and D.Ed graduates are given further training for 45 days to enhance their skills and creativity. On completion, the teachers are placed in reputed private schools.

Creating Edupreneurs
In its work in both the pre-school and primary school efforts, Akshara found that there is inadequate capacity in the government system and that this needs to be supplemented with private enterprise. This led Akshara to create a training programme for creating edupreneurs - education entrepreneurs - who could deliver quality pre-school education and supplementary education services at a fee to the community. This programme has been rolled out in many parts of the state successfully.
