Akshara Ganitha is Akshara Foundation’s Mathematics Programme designed as a support programme for students and teachers in government primary schools. It seeks to encourage clarity of thought and the ability to address mathematical problems in day-to-day life. It is an activity-based learning programme that focuses on improving the math skills of children in grades 1-5 by making learning fun. It emphasises on ‘understanding by doing’, and peer learning.

Ganitha Kalika Andolana (GKA) is a movement scaled up by the Government of Karnataka for wider reach. It focuses on bringing math proficiency for children in grades 4 and 5. The programme is implemented by provisioning math Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) to schools, and by providing training and support to teachers in government primary schools. These TLMs are designed to facilitate learning of competencies prescribed in the Karnataka State curriculum. Akshara Ganitha has been developed with a great deal of research and inputs from subject experts and field practitioners. It supplements governmental efforts in enhancing the quality of math learning outcomes.
The Akshara Ganitha Kit has Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs) like the Abacus; Base 10 Blocks; Place Value Strip
Fraction Strips; Geo Board; Clock; Protractor; Play Money Notes; Measuring Tape and much more.

Math kits can be procured from: Innovative Design Educational Kits (IDEK) - idekits@gmail.com

These TLMs are supported by Math Concept Cards and a Teacher’s Manual (Kannada/Urdu/English) to facilitate learning in every classroom. The following teaching learning materials are free and can be downloaded and used in any geography.

Ganitha Kalika Andolana Teacher’s handbook
These manuals provide guidelines for grade 4 and 5 math teachers on the use of teaching aids in the math kit provided as a part of the GKA programme.
Math Concept Cards
This is a set of 10 cards with illustrations and short stories to familiarise the children with the terminology related to math concepts. It also has questions which encourages critical thinking among children. These cards are provided along with the kits.
