‘Swalpa English, Thumba Fun’ is Akshara’s introductory English language programme for primary school children where English is taught as a second language (ESL). This teacher-supportive, child friendly programme is designed primarily for listening-comprehension skills (L), followed by speaking (S), basic reading (R) and writing (W) skills.

The content covers themes and stories in familiar contexts. This is designed to deliver L-S-R-W skills and give confidence even to the teacher whose first language in school was not English. The programme content is divided into 3 Levels based on the child’s learning ability. The following teaching learning materials are free and can be downloaded and used in any
geography.

The Package consists of:

Level 1

This is for beginners. The content has familiar themes and uses simple language structures. The emphasis is on listening comprehension with encouragement to begin speaking.

This manual has pictures which are numbered and divided into parts for easy conversation. The manual provides guidelines on the use of the Workbook, teaching of rhymes and phonics.

Level 2

Builds on the listening skills of level 1. This level has slightly enhanced vocabulary in the context of more themes and familiar stories and introduces simple reading skills.
